Kingswood Reserves 4 Tibberton United 1
Kingswood sprung out of the traps and led after
just 12 seconds, as Tommy Higgins latched onto a defensive blunder to score
with ease. The home side were unlucky not to increase their lead further on 10
minutes, as Scott Harvey crashed a free kick against the angle. The home side retained
possession well and kept pressure on the ball high up the pitch not allowing
the visitors to settle and when Harvey closed down an opponent on 25 minutes the
ball spun up from the resultant challenge, and was struck home with aplomb by
Ryan Mudd to make it 2-0. Tibberton were back in the game on 30 minutes with a
well worked goal as Kingswood failed to clear the ball in the left back
position, Luke Riders cross was swept in by John Anderson to make it 2-1 at the
interval.
Both of Kingswood’s wide men, Dave Parslow and
Gary Simmons were more evident after the break, and the pacey Simmons was put
through by Harvey after 53 minutes, only to be crudely upended for an
uncontested penalty decision, which Higgins converted at the second attempt.
The game became more open as the visitors tired and the pace of the home side
should have produced more goals. Higgins, Parslow and Simmons all had good
opportunities to increase the lead. However the final goal did not arrive until
the 85th minute, when a fine run and unselfish pass across the six
yard box by Simmons found substitute Pete Beale arriving at the far post to prod
home for a final score of 4 -1.
