The
home side could have been in front as early as the 2nd minute as referee Andy
Rice heeded the flag alert from the visiting official to rule out Dan Griffiths
strike. Again in the 5th minute, a corner well taken by Paul
Eldridge was ‘turned in’ by Barrie Dibden only to be ruled out once again as
the referee brought play back to a ‘foul’ spotted some moments before.
Brockworth had no answer to the power of Barrie Dibden or the quick thinking
and trickery of Dan Griffiths, although the final pass or decision was the
problem for the home side with either the wrong or delayed decisions costing
them dearly as chance after chance went missing.
Kingswood
eventually got themselves in front on 22 minutes, as Griffiths found his strike
partner Dibden in space, who made no mistake this time from 10 yards. However, Brockworth
were level 10 minutes later as a moving ball from a free kick was missed by the
official and the extra speed of the kick caught out the home defence and a
scooped shot ballooned in Chris Fox’s net to make it 1-1.
The
second period saw the home side dominate play, and get themselves ahead after
55 minutes with Gavin Dibden turning in a Paul Eldridge corner. It was 3-1 on
78 minutes, again from an Eldridge corner, this time Griffiths with a flick
header at the near post leaving Davy Tubbs between the visiting sticks with no
chance.
Manager
Ian Evans gave the younger members of his squad a chance late on with Mudd,
Parslow and Beswick all contributing to an entertaining last period, which saw
Barrie Dibden add a fourth after 85minutes once again from an Eldridge set
piece.
Chairman
Rob Bateman commented, “Ian (Evans) introduced a
number of our Reserve players for this game, all of whom played their part and
it was great to see the strength in depth we are achieving at the club”
